Upplýsingar um gistirými
The Bar Convent is a memorable and convenient place to stay to visit York. Situated next to the City Walls, the convent is less than five minutes' walk from York Railway Station and within easy reach of the City Centre.
The building originally dates back to 1686 when it was established as a school for girls. The fine 17th century buildings now house a 20 bedroom Guest House, Exhibition and Gift Shop, together with Conference Rooms and a Café with an excellent reputation for food and service. Our breakfasts have earned us a coveted Visit England Breakfast Award (2017), and we were a finalist for Best B&B in the Visit York Tourism Awards 2017, receiving a commendation as runner up. We also hold a 3 Star Silver rating from Visit England (2017).
All of our rooms have quality mattresses, duvets and pillows and are supplied with tea/coffee facilities with biscuits. Although most of our rooms are now en suite, we also offer a number of rooms with access to shared bathrooms, for those travelling on a budget. All of our rooms have modern flat-screen TVs and have benefited from extensive refurbishment over Summer 2015, including the installation of several brand new en suite bathrooms.
Unlike many other accommodation providers, we also offer a fully-equipped kitchen for guests to use, which is ideal for preparing evening snacks or other home comforts during your stay.
We warmly encourage you to visit us in stunning York, and stay in a place with a rich and fascinating history.
Please note that as part our conservation programme to maintain the high standards of our historic house, external painting work will be taking place at various times between 16 April – 24 August 2018. This is expected to have no impact on the enjoyment of your stay at the Centre whatsoever, however small sections of scaffolding may be seen on the outside of the house to enable access to high areas and some painters will be working outside during business hours midweek.

Accounts must be paid by the end of your stay with us. The following methods of payment are accepted:
- Debit or Credit Cards
- Sterling traveller’s cheques (no change given)
Please note that the Trust does not accept stag or hen party bookings.
It is our policy as part of our ‘check in’ procedure to gain your explicit consent (by ticking an acceptance box) next to our data collection statement. This gives further information and reassurance that we collect, use and confidentially dispose of your personal data for the express purpose of providing accommodation services only. If you wish to receive occasional accommodation offers please also tick the second acceptance box detailed.
Regrettably we have to operate a cancellation policy like the vast majority of UK accommodation providers to discourage late cancellations, which result in lost business. Our policy is as follows:
In the event of a cancellation, if a guest notifies the Guest House 28 calendar days before the first nights stay the deposit is refundable. Thereafter, 50% of the deposit will be refunded if a guest notifies the Guest House 14 calendar days before the first nights stay. No refund will be provided for cancellations made within 14 calendar days of the first nights stay. All cancellations must be made by telephone or email and acknowledged by a member of staff to be valid.
We strongly advise customers to buy travel insurance when travelling.
